Language exchanges

A language exchange is an informal way to practise or improve the languages that you already know or that you are learning. In a language exchange, two people who speak different languages practise the other person’s language during a series of previously agreed meetings. The main purpose is to practise speaking skills in a real context, and it complements the formal learning of a language.

Catalan universities have many language and cultural exchange programmes: tandems, language volunteers, banks of language pairs and conversation groups, among others.

Language exchange handbook

Level:basic, intermediate and advanced.

Objectives:provide ideas, guidance, and proposals on how to independently manage language exchanges and reflect on the similarities and differences between cultures and countries in ways of living and organising life.

Target group:students, administrative and service staff, and teaching and research staff who participate in language exchanges and welcome activities at Catalan universities.

Skills:oral expression.

Type of learning:face-to-face.
